New online fire tool

An Atherton-based geographic group presented a new online mapping tool to help local firefighters and property owners reduce the severity of wildfires to the Cooktown Fire Management Group last week.

Stakeholders can access information including fire hydrant and dam locations, fire breaks and trails, prescribed burn and fire scar data, topographic mapping and imagery on the Atherton Tablelands Geographic Information Services website.

The online tools, built as part of the Northern Queensland Wildfire Mitigation Project, allow firefighters to combine different layers of information to create customized maps of their areas of interest.
